The Argumentative Indians

20th August is celebrated as Akshya Urja Diwas/ Renewable Energy Day in India. On this occasion, World Energy Council – Indian Member Committee joined hands with Energy Saving Commission of World Foundrymen Organization to organize a Conference on "Climate Change & Hydro Vision". A dinner meet on the theme was held at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi. The eminent speakers included; Mr. R.V. Shahi, Former Secretary (Power) and Chairman - Energy Infratech, Mr. Prakash Kumar, Joint Secretary – Ministry of Earth Sciences, Mr. Yogendra Prasad, Chairman – Uttarakhand Jal VIdyut Nigam, Mr. T.N. Thakur, CMD, PTC India Ltd., Mr. R.K. Behera, Chairman – RSB Group, Pune and Mr. Vijay Prakash Saha, Chairman – Energy Saving Commission,WFO. The post speech QA session carried a hot debate on the present status of energy sector and I had a chance to find a good piece for my blog to share with you. Mr. Bami has said that hydro utilities are unable to complete their project on time….answering to him Mr. Y Prasad said, “What happened with your Coaldam project (The hydro project of NTPC)? Hydro project is easy to start with but it difficult to finish it as in the efforts of resettlement & rehabilitation of people you have to face the anger of NGO’s. China has moved their 4 lakh people in year but we do it in a moth with 40000, initiating confidence building majors”.

"We Indians are very argumentative…thus a USA professor say half of our times goes to pacify the Indian student and half of that goes in the endeavor to make Chinese students to speak out," T. N. Takur revealed.

An audience replied, “See the Project of DMRC, the engineer Sridharan has done great job...even he must be awarded from Bharat Ratna. So people, who say that target has not been fulfilled, must take inspiration from him!

Mr. Prasad burst out….we just have been talking from so many years, in reality nothing has been done. The problem is that when we are in a position to do some efforts, we don't..so it's the matter of political will... after retirement we start blaming to each other. China has communism, we have democracy, where we have to listen all the channels...that’s why Subhash Chadra Bose recommended that the nation has to be put under army rule at least for10 years to let the development happen smoothly. Somebody ridiculed from behind, “ Mushrraf has resigned....call him to rule on India. Then Mr. Bami replied that we had achieved our target during 7th Plan with 98% result.

Mr. Prasad proceeded, “Sridharan is good friend of mine. DMRC has single window clearance of project and Sridharn was allowed to take 10000 tenders a day at his levels, but Energy sector doesn't have this kind of delegation of power to finish at once…thus unable to attract private investor/ players.

Eventually the debate was concluded by this conclusion that select the right people for right job and empower them.
